Does tech give credit?
My Friday Thought: Coding languages are like films, we seldom create new, but build on the older ones.
Many modern films are remakes of older classics (or books turned into films). Whilst we might complain when we prefer the original we generally accept the creativity and ability to use newer/modern techniques.
Coding languages and principles, I feel, are somewhat the same. We have the original language/principle the modern one was built on. Sometimes the improvements are significant, sometimes the only thing new is the name and the people older enough to remember the original are few.
So what? Does it matter?
So what: A reminder that within tech we are typically standing on the shoulders of the giants who came before us and all their hard work to allow us to be smoother today.
Does it matter: Maybe not, as long as we did credit the originals and don't only change because it's new.
The one question I have though is when our giants are reused by AI, do we truly give the credit back to those that worked hard to give us our boost, or simple say ChatGPT is awesome?
